Vowel Counter

Vowels carry the sound of a sentence. They are what you actually sustain when speaking, so vowel density correlates closely with how smooth or how staccato a passage feels when read aloud. Copy destined for narration, adverts, or anything a person will voice benefits from a quick vowel check, because text that looks fine on the page can turn out to be a mouthful the moment someone tries to perform it.

This matters most in naming and in poetry, where a few characters do a lot of work. Open vowels like a and o read as broad and calm; tight vowels like i and e read as quick and sharp. Brand names that need to feel premium and unhurried tend to be vowel-rich, which is why the pattern shows up repeatedly in luxury and wellness naming. Running candidate names through a vowel count makes an intuition you already have into something you can compare across a shortlist.

Two cautions. The count treats y as a consonant by default even though it functions as a vowel in words like rhythm and myth, so vowel-light results are worth eyeballing. And the standard five-vowel assumption is an English one — languages with vowel diacritics, digraphs, or larger vowel inventories will produce counts that understate what a native speaker hears. Use the number to compare drafts in one language rather than to compare across languages.
