The long-versus-short copy argument is unresolvable as stated, because the correct length depends on how much the reader already knows and how much the decision costs them. Someone arriving from a branded search having already decided needs a price and a button. Someone encountering an unfamiliar category for the first time needs the problem framed, the mechanism explained, and the objections answered before any button is relevant.

Purchase risk moves it further. A low-cost, reversible, familiar purchase tolerates very short copy because the cost of being wrong is trivial. An expensive, hard-to-reverse, or reputationally risky decision — enterprise software, a medical service, anything involving a committee — needs enough material to survive being forwarded to someone who was not part of the conversation. That is why B2B pages run long and consumer impulse pages run short, and why copying one pattern into the other context fails.

So audit by function rather than by word count. List what each section does — frames the problem, demonstrates the mechanism, provides proof, handles an objection, asks for the action — and check whether any function is missing or duplicated. Copy is too long when it repeats a job already done, not when it exceeds a number. Cutting a page that is genuinely doing five jobs down to an arbitrary target removes the reason someone would buy.
